LEARN ABOUT NEW FLOOD MAPS GENESEE COUNTY, NY

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) just recently revised the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) and released the preliminary versions for public review and comment. This is the first time these maps have been revised in over 40 years, and the maps inform whether conventional mortgage lenders require mortgage holders from carrying flood insurance.
You can access that map from this link:

https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/bcac825f0557410aa57a350b0c293cb2/

Once the link is opened under the Preliminary Flood Hazard Areas, click on the search icon. You can then enter an address and view the new hazard map at your address. By sliding the bar in the center, you can compare the existing map with the revised one. If you prefer, you can also change the background of the map to aerial imagery at the top right of the screen.

Hard copies of the preliminary maps are also available for viewing at the Town Hall, 3833 West Main Street Road, Batavia, NY 14020.

There will be an in-person Flood Risk and Insurance Open House in Genesee County (details below).  Attendees will have a chance to learn what updated flood maps mean for their community and get answers to questions about the maps, the mapping process, and flood insurance.

WHEN:
Thursday, May 15, 2025
any time between 3:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

WHERE:
Genesee County, Building Two
3837 W Main Street Rd #2,
Batavia, NY 14020

Bring your flood insurance declaration page if you have it. The meeting will not have a formal presentation. Residents can join at any time and can stay for any length of time as well.
