Batavia, NY 14020

Kiwanis Park in 2009 is a beautiful, tree-filled recreation area on the north bank of the Tonawanda Creek. In 1970, the acreage was an abandoned and neglected eyesore that had attracted the attention of local residents and members of the Kiwanis Club. They decided to develop the land into a picnic and recreation area for the use of local families and tourists. With the cooperation and hard work of town, county, state and federal governments and officials, and the Kiwanis Club of Batavia, approximately $100,000 in funding was obtained for this project. Kiwanis Club members, as well as town and county employees and volunteers improved the land, and built a road, a pavilion with restrooms, picnic tables, tennis courts and a children’s playground for the park. Kiwanis Park was officially established in 1976. Five years later, with 80% of the work completed, the Kiwanis Club held a dedication ceremony and picnic on June 25, 1981. Today, this park stands “as a monument and a credit to all those people who donated their time, materials and money to the development of this area.”

Ellicott Trail
NYS Rte 33 to Seven Springs Road
Batavia NY

The Ellicott trail begins on Route 33 near the intersection of Industrial Boulevard and extends easterly for 5 miles through the City and Town of Batavia to its terminus at Seven Springs Road. The trail provides a pedestrian friendly alternative mode of transportation through the City and Town connecting recreational, historical, commercial and residential areas in the City and Town. The trail provides a meandering route through Batavia connecting Williams Park on the east and Dewitt Park on the west side of the City. The trail also traverses through the historic Elmwood Cemetery and along beautiful sections of historic rail road beds. The majority of the 10 ft. wide stone dust trail is on old rail road beds and is connected with some on-road sections. The trail cost $1.6 million to build. Funding for the project was provided by the New York State Department of Transportation, State of New York, City and Town of Batavia.

For more information and to view pictures of the trail visit the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce website.
