Kiwanis Park

Kiwanis Park in 2009 is a beautiful, tree-filled recreation area on the north bank of the Tonawanda Creek. In 1970, the acreage was an abandoned and neglected eyesore that had attracted the attention of local residents and members of the Kiwanis Club. They decided to develop the land into a picnic and recreation area for the use of local families and tourists. With the cooperation and hard work of town, county, state and federal governments and officials, and the Kiwanis Club of Batavia, approximately $100,000 in funding was obtained for this project. Kiwanis Club members, as well as town and county employees and volunteers improved the land, and built a road, a pavilion with restrooms, picnic tables, tennis courts and a children's playground for the park. Kiwanis Park was officially established in 1976. Five years later, with 80% of the work completed, the Kiwanis Club held a dedication ceremony and picnic on June 25, 1981. Today, this park stands "as a monument and a credit to all those people who donated their time, materials and money to the development of this area."
